Celebrating International Typewriter Day

Today at AnchoredScraps.com we are celebrating International Typewriter Day 2015!

It has been a big day of celebration at UPPERCASE (on Twitter @uppercasemag) today.  Janine Vangool announced a new website has debuted today uppercasetypewriter.com to showcase her new book: The Typewriter: A Graphic History of the Beloved Machine.

Pre-orders are now being taken and they begin shipping in September:   I have already placed my order!

From the About page: “A richly illustrated book full of never-before published typewriter memorabilia, intriguing historical documents and entertaining anecdotes, The Typewriter: a Graphic History of the Beloved Machine is a beautiful ode to an all-but-obsolete creative companion.”

Continuing with celebrating International Typewriter Day there was this retweet from Typewriter Revolution  (on Twitter @typewriterRev) of a tweet by Newsflicks (on Twitter @newsflicks) about ‘QWERTY is born’.  And there was this tweet too “Celebrating #typewriterday with some pics of my new Triumph Norm 6….”

At his site, Richard Polt, is now taking pre-orders for this book: The Typewriter Revolution: A Typist’s Companion for the 21st Century is expected in Fall 2015.  The book description includes “The Typewriter Revolution documents the movement and provides pratical advice on how to choose a typewriter, care for it, and use it – from National Novel Writing Month to letter-writing socials, from type-ins to typewritten blogs, from custom-painted typewriters to typewriter tattoos.”

Finally, there is this link to the Typosphere which is where I first learned of the planned day.  The site has a page for Typewriter Day.

Earlier this week I received great news about my Dad’s Typewriter  (Olympia SM3 Typewriter, 1958) – it is almost done with time away getting spruced up (I call it being off at the spa) and there is talk it can be picked up on Thursday of this week!   This link from May 03: Typewritten Letters (USB optional) shows photos of my Olivetti Lettera 22 Manual Typewriter.      Thank you for participating in the shared enthusiasm for Typewriters today – making today just our type of blogpost!

Helen
