EXCLUSIVE – Anton Newcombe issues charitable rallying cry through Far Out Magazine

Anton Newcombe, the founding member of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, has issued a rallying cry to all fans to back his latest charity raffle for Oxfam and MSF International.

Newcombe has managed to accumulate an obscenely desirable collection of prizes in an incredible ‘winner takes all’ raffle.

With pairs of tickets for Levitation’s Austin Psych Fest AND France festival as well as 40 180g special vinyl records (full prize list below), Newcombe explained the competition:

“Levitation donated two pairs of weekend passes to me, both the French and Austin festivals, you know, Austin Psych Fest,” he said.

“There are more than 50 million refugees on earth right now. This contest is basically a thing I thought up. Instead of auctioning something on eBay and collecting money from the highest bidder, I thought I’d have a raffle and not have to touch any money.

“We then just have people show proof then we take their twitter handle and every email address gets a number – then we pick a number drawn out of a cup and there’s your winner.

“Now, the last few times we had about 100 people donate to raise about thousands or more but I wanted to try an experiment, just to see if we could really tempt more people to make a donation to either Oxfam or MSF.

“The reason I have given a choice of charities is some people don’t care for the times that Oxfam has spoken out on issues. I don’t mind, they are fantastic – so are MSF and that’s incontrovertible so there’s no excuse not to make a donation and help make a difference.

“This is an incredible amount of stuff we are giving away and I will continue to announce more prizes. I just want people to be charitable too, someone will win it all fair and square even if you don’t have a record player it would be well worth it to get one if you won 40 180g vinyl – they go for about £20 a pop!

“Think about it and make a donation, please.”
