KARACHI: Sindh government has decided to establish state-of-the-art ‘Labour Complex’ at the National Institutes of Labour Administration Training (NILAT) with an aim to impart training to trade bodies so that issues of the labourers could be resolved, Daily Times has learnt. According to sources, NILAT is one of the premier training institutes in the country, which impart training in the field of labour administration and industrial welfare. This institute was originally established in year 1956-57 on the recommendation of ILO Survey Mission by the government of Pakistan. Now after 18th Amendment in the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, NILAT has been transferred to the Sindh government with effect from July 1st, 2011. Since then the NILAT is working as an attached department under the administrative control of Labour and Human Resources Department, government of Sindh.While talking to Daily Times, Secretary Labour and Human Resources, Abdul Rasheed Solangi, said that the mission of the institute is to promote knowledge and skills in the field of labour administration and industrial welfare so as to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency and productivity of the mid-level management of the organisations. He said, “The training efforts will uplift harmony in relationship between the workforce and the employers. NILAT’s vision is to become the best training and development institute of the country. NILAT undertake research on various labour related issues like labour administration, labour legislation, industrial relations, health and safety, working conditions and other related issues through participants of postgraduate diploma course in labour administration and industrial welfare under the supervision of faculty members and to assist trade unions and employers on need basis.” He said that after transfer of NILAT to the Sindh government, the Labour and Human Resources Department has worked out a scheme aimed at upgrading and developing the ‘Labour Complex’ that would house all the offices of labour Department under one roof adding that Rs 250 million has been approved for the same purpose. Rasheed Solangi said that in the proposed labour complex, all the offices including east, west, south and center would be established so that neither labour nor the industrialists face any problems.
