Music is always playing in our home though lately this summer it has been competing with my children’s new found interest, Rock Band. Listening is fun but getting hands-on is even better and that’s just what families can do as part of the new Ontario Science Centre Exhibit: The Science of Rock ‘N Roll.

Right from the rock poster display at the entrance my family was hooked. Oh, did I not tell you about my husband’s gig poster collection? I loved the step back in time as worked our way through curate displays of music history by the decades.

We learned that The Who was recorded as one of the loudest bands in history (my husband nodded knowingly) and that it was the Beach Boys who contracted Sunn Electronics to build a the first large scale sound system for a rock concert environment.

I even had to explain an 8-Track system, something that was a part of my childhood.

Of course the hands-on experience was the best part. There are sound rooms to record your singing, guitar and piano corners to play along and even a drum set to rock out on.
