We recently sent off for an interview with the legendary Canadian blackened death metal outfit, Necronomicon. We were lucky enough to get a few answers from the band’s frontman Rob “The Witch”. We talked ‘Advent Of The Human God‘, touring and more. You can check out the interview after the jump.

Q – ‘Advent Of The Human God’ was released through Season Of Mist records back on March 18th (March 25th in North America). How has the overall reception towards it been so far?
A: So far its doing really good and specialy in America so i cant really complain about that.
Q – This is the first time in the band’s career that you’ve released more than one record on the same record label. What about Season Of Mist made you compelled to stay on with them?
A: I think it just happened like that , not special reasons beside the fact that they know what they do and are one of the most renowned label in metal. Some of the previous labels we have been working with in the past dont even exist now, so of course when that happen you need to move on.
Q – The album was was self produced, as well as mixed and mastered by JP Dagenais from Kataklysm. How did it come about to have him on board, as well as the decision to self produce the record?
A: All necronomicon albums have been self produced, i think it just happened because we couldnt find anyone who had the same vision to be able to have that Necro touch the way we need on each album.Once we tried with someone else and the result if totally opposite of what we wanted. JF had worked with us before so since we already liked the previous work he did for us the choice was logic, and he is a long time friend also.
Q – You incorporated a cover of ‘Innocence And Wrath’ by Celtic Frost onto the record as well. What let into the selecting of this particular song to include on the album?
A: Because its the song that made me do what i do today, dark metal with orchestral parts. As simple as that. So for me it was a fitting addition and tribute at the same time.
Q – Necronomicon will be embarking on a 3-week tour in the US this fall, supporting Marduk, Rotting Christ and Carach Angren. What are your overall expectations for this tour, if there are any?
A: I dont have my mind on that now since we are touring Canada right now and we still have 2 weeks to do here before heading in USA, but im pretty sure that this one is gonna be a total blast.
Q – After the run with Marduk is is finished, what’s next for Necronomicon?
A:Well first a little break after 2 months on the road, after we will see but we already have some things in planning that i cant talk right now.
Q – What’s the best concert you’ve ever attended, but didn’t play?
A: Hard to say i do go see concerts. But asking my guys right now , Mars says definitly Slayer on the God hate us All tour and Rick Pantera and Rammstein.
Q – What are some of your personal favorite music releases from the past year?
A: I havent listened to anything new for a long time. On the road we play a lot of old stuff like Elvis, James brown, Buddy holly but also Deep purple and bands like that, well especially on this tour right now.
