Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (SHI) today announced that it has won a $100 million contract to build two small-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, including one with LNG bunkering capabilities.

The 7,500 cubic metre (cbm) LNG carriers are being built for Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) to transport LNG from Tongyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do, to Jeju Island.

"The newly signed contract further solidifies SHI's leading track record in the LNGC market," said SHI.

TheĀ  LNG vessels will be equipped with KC-1 cargo containment systems, which were designed in Korea.

"The contract is a significant milestone for SHI, developing a leading track record in KC-1 LNG carriers, as well as expanding into small-scale LNGCs and LNG-bunkering vessels," said SHI.

The vessels are set for delivery in May and December of 2019.
