Author, gadfly and gay provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos self-published his new book “Dangerous” on Independence Day. It is now the No. 1 best-seller on Amazon, for now besting such popular books as Mark Levin’s “Rediscovering Americanism” and J.D. Vance’s “Hillbilly Elegy.”
Mr. Yiannopoulos lost a major book contract with Simon & Schuster earlier this year after making a controversial sexual remark, but vowed to get “the most controversial book of the decade” into print. The 288-page work addressees that controversy, and also contains such chapters as “Why the Progressive Left Hates Me,” “Why Feminists Hate Me” and “Why the Media Hates Me.”
The author says he plans a public “free speech” rally outside the offices of Simon & Schuster in New York City on Friday morning. Mr. Yiannopoulos hopes to suggest to the publisher that they made a “terrible mistake” by cancelling his book contract. He also plans to hand out free copies of his book to the first 100 people who show up at the event.
The book is drawing attention, meanwhile.
“Milo Yiannopuolos’ new book is hardly ‘Dangerous,’” wrote reviewer Jocelyn McClurg in USA Today, who deemed the work “boring.”
His reviewers on Amazon appear to disagree, with over 150 offering positive reviews.
“Number of stories in the mainstream press announcing that my book is number one again, sold out within hours, has shipped more than 100,000 copies: zero,” the author wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday. “But CNN has plenty of coverage for you threatening a guy who made a cartoon. We don’t need them, folks!”
