Trump vs. Biden tale of the tape: Who will win this fight?

Get your popcorn ready: If the war of words between former Vice President Joseph R. Biden and President Trump this week is any indication, the 2020 war for the White House is going to be a heck of a ride.

Mr. Biden kicked off the tough-guy talk at an anti-sexual assault rally at the University of Miami earlier in the week — and Mr. Trump was his punching bag.

“A guy who ended up becoming our national leader said, ‘I can grab a woman anywhere and she likes it,’” Mr. Biden told the crowd. “They asked me if I’d like to debate this gentleman, and I said ‘no.’ I said, ‘If we were in high school, I’d take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him.’

“I’ve been in a lot of locker rooms my whole life,” he continued. “I’m a pretty damn good athlete. Any guy that talked that way was usually the fattest, ugliest S.O.B. in the room.”

Mr. Trump, a famed counter-puncher, reveled at the opening.

“Crazy Joe Biden is trying to act like a tough guy. Actually, he is weak, both mentally and physically, and yet he threatens me, for the second time, with physical assault. He doesn’t know me, but he would go down fast and hard, crying all the way. Don’t threaten people Joe!” Mr. Trump tweeted.

Mr. Biden said Tuesday he would have “beat the hell out of” Mr. Trump in high school if he made crude remarks about women. He made the comments in a video posted on Facebook by the University of Miami College Democrats. He made similar comments during the 2016 election at a rally for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Mr. Trump made some lewd remarks that were caught on an “Access Hollywood” tape, which was released during the campaign. Mr. Biden was referencing those comments when he discussed beating up Mr. Trump.
