Ukraine - accords de Minsk - Minsk agreements

Kiev authorities openly say that Ukraine will not implement the Minsk agreements

In an interview with Associated Press, the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, Alexey Danilov, openly said that Ukraine will not implement the Minsk agreements, as this would lead to the complete destruction of the country.

In contrast to the usual rhetoric of the Kiev authorities in the Western media about the need to implement the Minsk agreements, the interview with Alexey Danilov published on the Associated Press website publicly reveals what many analysts, including myself, have been saying for years, namely that Ukraine will never implement these agreements!

Confirming what Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in spring 2021, Alexey Danilov says that the Minsk agreements signed in 2015 must be rewritten because “the fulfilment of the Minsk agreement means the country’s [Ukraine – translator’s note] destruction“.

When they were signed under the Russian gun barrel — and the German and the French watched — it was already clear for all rational people that it’s impossible to implement those documents,” says the secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine.

Associated Press goes on to explain that these Minsk agreements were negotiated after a series of Ukrainian military defeats, and are seen in Ukraine as a betrayal of national interests, prompting Zelensky and his senior officials to repeatedly call for their rewriting.

Except that if these agreements were signed after military defeats, this confirms what I said in an article last year, namely that Ukraine signed the Minsk agreements in the position of loser of the conflict! Therefore, it has nothing to demand. When you lose a conflict and you sign a peace agreement to save what’s left of your army, you don’t start demanding a few years later to rewrite the agreements so that they are more favourable to you. You implement them or you accept the resumption of the conflict. Full stop.

Moreover, this statement by Alexey Danilov shatters the Ukrainian propaganda that has been claiming for years that the Ukrainian army is holding back the Russian army and thus protecting Western Europe since 2014. If Ukraine signed the Minsk agreements “under the Russian gun barrel“, this means that the Ukrainian army was defeated (in reality it was defeated by the people’s militias of the DPR and LPR – Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics !!!), and thus it is holding back nothing !

The rest of the interview is even more surreal, when Danilov warns the West against pressuring Ukraine to comply with the Minsk agreements, saying that this would make the country unstable.

If they insist on the fulfillment of the Minsk agreements as they are it will be very dangerous for our country,” he said. “If the society doesn’t accept those agreements, it could lead to a very difficult internal situation and Russia counts on that.”

Danilov also stressed that if Ukraine implemented the Minsk agreements, this would allow Russia to demand the lifting of Western sanctions linked to progress in the implementation of these agreements. Clearly, Ukraine wants first and foremost to maintain sanctions against Russia, and will therefore do everything to prevent any progress in the implementation of the Minsk agreements, so that these sanctions remain in place. This statement confirms what the DPR and the LPR have been saying for years, namely that it is Ukraine that is sabotaging the implementation of the Minsk agreements!!!

And the icing on the cake was for the end, when Danilov called for the negotiation of a new document that could realistically be implemented, adding that it should force “Putin to simply pull his troops and tanks back.”

So let’s sum up, Ukraine lost the war in the Donbass, which forced it to sign (twice!!!! ) the Minsk agreements in order to save its army, but the Ukrainian authorities, through the voice of Danilov, explain to us that they will not apply them because that would sow chaos in the country, and that as a bonus the sanctions against Russia would be lifted (showing that it is indeed Kiev that is sabotaging the implementation of these agreements), but in addition the losing party is demanding new agreements that would force the country designated as the winner (Russia, which is crazy, but let’s not go into it) to withdraw.

I would sincerely like to know what narcotic the Ukrainian officials are taking to come up with such a rant! I would like to know in what alternative reality, the winner of a war could be forced to renegotiate the peace agreement that he imposed on the loser, because the country that lost the war cannot bear to have lost it, and this while the aforementioned agreement was validated, I recall, by a UN resolution?

In any case, this interview proves that what the DPR, the LPR and Russia are saying about the sabotage of the Minsk agreements by Ukraine is true, and the inaction of France and Germany following these words of a Ukrainian official, shows that the Western guarantors of these agreements have no intention of forcing Kiev to apply what it signed.
